First Joint Rohde & Schwarz and Zurich Instruments QT Event

Quantum technologies progress towards useful applications at a tremendous pace, with different technological platforms and approaches being explored. As key enablers of control and measurement solutions for quantum computing applications, Zurich Instruments and Rohde & Schwarz want to bring together researchers in quantum technologies who may work in different areas and face distinct challenges but share core competencies and important know-how.

This inaugural Quantum Technology User Meeting will focus on:

  • Celebrating our customers' achievements with high-level scientific talks;
  • Empowering researchers to make the most out of our instrumentation by sharing best practices, tips and tricks in the form of detailed tutorials; and
  • Fostering interactions, exchanging ideas and networking with a poster session, an open instrumentation exhibition and a round table on future challenges and opportunities in the field.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Filipp

Stefan Filipp was appointed Professor in Technical Physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Director of the Walther-Meißner-Institute (WMI) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in 2020. He previously worked at IBM and led the team at the IBM Research – Zurich Laboratory developing architectures for quantum computing based on superconducting circuits. His research focuses on improving the coherence and control of superconducting quantum circuits for scalable quantum processors.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Wallraff

Andreas Wallraff is Full Professor for Solid-State Physics in the Department of Physics at ETH Zurich. His work focuses on the experimental investigation of quantum effects in superconducting electronic circuits for fundamental quantum optics experiments and for applications in quantum information processing. His group at ETH Zurich researches micro- and nano-electronics as well as hybrid quantum systems combining superconducting electronic circuits with semiconductor quantum dots, making use of fast and sensitive microwave techniques at ultra-low temperatures.

Dr. Anna Stockklauser

Anna Stockklauser is the Director of Product Strategy and Planning at Rigetti Computing, focusing on Rigetti's quantum processors and quantum cloud services. After joining in 2018, Anna went on to lead the simulation driven design of Rigetti's quantum integrated circuits. From 2020 to 2022 she led the establishment of Rigetti's first Quantum Computing Center in the UK. Anna holds a PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich where she developed hybrid quantum systems combining superconducting nonlinear resonators and semiconductor quantum dots.


Dr. Jan Goetz

Jan Goetz is a quantum physicist and co-founding CEO of IQM, a company building next-generation quantum computers. Jan earned his PhD on superconducting quantum circuits from the Technical University of Munich and worked as a Marie Curie Fellow at Aalto University, where he currently holds the title of docent. In 2020, he was selected by Capital magazine as one of 40 under 40 in Germany and received the prestigious entrepreneurship award from the KAUTE Foundation. Jan is on the board of the European Innovation Council EIC, the European Quantum Industry Consortium QuIC, and is a member of the German Federal Economic Senate (Bundeswirtschaftssenat).


Prof. Dr. Natalia Ares

Natalia Ares works on experiments to advance the development of quantum technologies, with a focus on artificial intelligence for quantum device control and quantum thermodynamics. She joined the Materials Department at the University of Oxford in 2013. She was awarded a series of fellowships, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie and a Royal Society University Research Fellowship, and a European Research Council Starting Grant in 2020. In October 2021 she was appointed as Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Science and Tutorial Fellow at New College.

Michael Förtsch

Michael Förtsch is founder and CEO of Q.ANT, a start-up developing photonic quantum technologies. Q.ANT's product developments include sensors for autonomous driving as well as for human-machine interaction and photonic quantum computing. He earned his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Light in Erlangen, for which he was awarded the Otto Hahn Medal by the Max Planck Society. After a research stay at the National Institute for Standards and Technology in Boulder, he started as a strategy consultant at TRUMPF GmbH + Co. KG in Stuttgart in 2015, where he became the personal assistant to the CTO & vice chairman of the management board of the TRUMPF Group in 2016. Recently, he was appointed head of the German photonic quantum computer hub, realizing the development of a photonic quantum computer with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of universities and companies.
