Coherent Raman Microscopy

Applications: Pump & probe microscopy, coherent Raman microscopy, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), stimulated Raman scattering (SRS), non-linear absorption microscopy, two photon absorption, transient absorption, video-rate molecular imaging.

Coherent Raman microscopy and non-linear absorption microscopy enhance the measurement sensitivity with signal modulation in the MHz range, where spectral noise of lasers is smaller and where it is possible to avoid background contributions in the detection. The imaging contrast is based on characteristic spectroscopic properties of certain molecules, i.e. their specific internal energy level structure. This spectroscopic fingerprint is selectively probed by nonlinear light-matter interactions, which yield an image showing the spatial distribution of the specific molecule. Depending on the technique, the stimulated energy transitions can be vibrational resonances of molecular bonds in the infrared range, or molecular electronic transitions in the visible range.

Objectives: perform signal demodulation with a lock-in amplifier and reference frequency in the MHz range, and enabling scanning/imaging at high-speed
Benefits: ready to use solution for video rate SRS, CARS, and absorption microscopy applications, a twofold detection accuracy enhancement compared to competing analog signal detection alternatives
