Winners of the Image Contest 2021

We are happy to announce the winners of the Zurich Instruments Image Contest organised as part of the 5th SPM User Meeting on May 20th, 2021.

Potential landscape on MoS2 flakes captured with the HF2LI

1st prize

Christian Ritz, ETH Zürich

Potential landscape on MoS2 flakes measured by frequency-modulation Kelvin probe force microscopy (FM-KPFM), using the HF2LI Lock-in Amplifier for direct sideband detection and feedback. The flakes were grown on SiO2 through chemical vapor deposition by Romana Kalt.

Vertical ZnO nanowire inside matrix captured with the HF2LI

2nd prize

Oleksandr Synhaivskyi, CNRS and Ecole Centrale de Lyon

Vertical ZnO nanowire inside polymer matrix measured by dual-frequency resonance tracking piezoresponse force microscopy (DFRT-PFM). The setup consisted of an HF2LI Lock-in Amplifier connected to the Bruker Dimension 3100 AFM microscope.

Current paths in multigrain vanadium dioxide device with gold electrodes studied with HF2LI

3rd prize

Nele Harnack, IBM Research Europe

Current paths in multigrain VO2 device with gold electrodes visualized by temperature rise due to self-heating. The data were acquired with an AFM-based scanning thermal microscope using the demodulators from the HF2LI Lock-in Amplifier.
